Invitation

The 13th Asian Solidarity Conference for the Issue of Military Sexual Slavery by Japan

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the end of World War 2. For Korea, it also means the 70th anniversary of the liberation from Imperial Japan, the 50th anniversary of the normalizing Korea-Japan diplomatic relations, and the 70th anniversary of the tragedy of division between the North and the South as well. Furthermore, 2015 is 20th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action which brought together wills of women around the world and declared violations of the human rights of women in armed conflict as a violation of international human rights principles and humanitarian laws. This year, when our steps toward the resolution of the Issue of Military Sexual Slavery by Japan will be more important than ever before, the Korean Council would like to hold the 13th Asian Solidarity Conference for the Issue of Military Sexual Slavery by Japan in Seoul.

Japanese government and conservatives’ distortion of history and evasion of responsibility, which has worsened since Prime Minister Abe came to power again, do not seem to wane at all. Including their attempt to military rearmament, many other attempts that threaten not just the peace of Korea and Japan but also the peace of the Asia are emerging among the movements by the United States and other international communities. Acts of hostility and armed conflicts are creating new tragedy each and every day all around the world.

We believe this is why the solidarity we have been building between victimized countries, women and people around the world will need to push forward. In this moment, 70 years after the war ended, we will need all of our resolution and actions to finally resolve the Issue of Military Sexual Slavery by Japan. Please join us for this year’s conference to take one step further to promote true liberation from violence and conflict.

We cordially invite all of you to the 13th Asian Solidarity Conference for the Issue of Military Sexual Slavery by Japan from May 21st to 24th in Seoul.
