Religious groups and civic groups in Japan and South Korea have been engaged in various exchange projects to date, have been aiming for peace. However, since last year, the conflict between the Japanese and Korean governments has fallen into an unprecedented situation.
Therefore, we have sincerely accumulated dialogues between Japanese and Korean civil societies to resolve conflicts between governments.
To create a platform for Japanese and Korean religious groups and civic groups to present a path to overcome.

Japan-Korea Reconciliation and Peace Platform Declaration Statement
The civil society and the religious community of South Korea and Japan overcome the unfortunate history of both Japan and South Korea to achieve reconciliation and peace.
Earnestly hope to achieve and become a true partner to cooperate for peace and symbiosis in Northeast Asia have been trying to cooperate with the private sector.

In the future, the Japan-Korea platform will support reconciliation and peace between the two countries, as well as non-nuclear peace in East Asia.
Private cooperation and solidarity with the goal of building a 'Common House' for the best effort to strengthen.
Through these efforts, the voices of the people can be heard and the willingness to participate in reconciliation and peace throughout the Japanese and Korean society.

The Japan-Korea platform:
First, we share the importance of 'memory'.
It is paradoxical to remember the painful and damaging past without forgetting it.

Beyond Japan and South Korea, Northeast Asian residents live in the daily threat of nuclear weapons. Tohoku
The threat of nuclear power plants and nuclear war in the region has lived with the villagers of the global community beyond Northeast Asia.
It violates the right to survival of all state systems. Creating a nuclear-free world can be delayed no further.
I can not do such a thing. Northeast Asian Nuclear Free Zone and a World Without Nuclear Weapons (Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty enters into force). We should work for it.
Fifth, create a society where the next generation can have dreams and hopes.
Both Japan and South Korea are currently suffering from the spread of the new coronavirus infection. Especially in Japan.
Many of the government's livelihood support systems have eliminated social minorities such as immigrants and Koreans living in Japan have been excluded. Overcoming the narrow nationalism, the youths of Japan and South Korea have freedom and equality, justice and peace,
Peace to live in a society where the universal values of humanity, including inclusion and harmony, reconciliation and symbiosis, are realized,
bringing together our competence in education, human rights education, and multicultural education.
The civil society and religious circles of Japan and South Korea are at a significant historical turning point. In the current crisis we will do our best to attract and expand the participation of the will of the people in order to turn it into a 'new opportunity'.

Japan-Korea Reconciliation and Peace Platform Inauguration Ceremony

“Korea-Japan Reconciliation and Peace Platform”
1. Civil society organizations and territories in Korea and Japan will hold an inauguration ceremony for “Korea-Japan Reconciliation and Peace Platform” on/offline from Seoul (Joe Hall on the 2nd floor of the Christian Church Hall) and Tokyo at 2 pm on July 2, 2020. . On February 28th (Friday), a launching ceremony was scheduled to be held in Tokyo.
We wish to proceed with the inauguration ceremony, hoping to turn the crisis into a new opportunity in front of the severe reality between Korea and Japan.
2. This platform will serve as a framework for solidarity between Korean and Japanese citizens who participate together and create new values and hopes by communicating with each other. In Korea, the Korean Christian Church Council (NCCK), the Catholic Church's National Reconciliation Committee, Won Buddhism, Korea YMCA National Federation, Civil Society Organization Conference, Progressive Solidarity, Citizens' Meeting to Protect Our Schools and Children, etc. There is. Japan participated in the Japan Christian Council (NCCJ), the Catholic Justice and Peace Council, Buddhism, Peace Boat, the 9th Act of the Peace Constitution against the Korean War, the National Network of Korean-Chinese People's Solidarity, and the Religious Network for Peace.
3. The main projects of the “Korea-Japan Reconciliation and Peace Platform” are as follows.
1) Healing the wounds of the victims of the painful history by remembering the painful past history of Korea and Japan and sharing the correct perception and inquiry
2) Commitment to the peace process on the Korean Peninsula (Chosun Peninsula) towards the end of the Korean War and the realization of peace agreements and to maintain Japan's peace constitution,
3) Doing our best to explore and implement a common vision of denuclearization and disarmament in East Asia and peace in the Asia Pacific region.
4) In order to expand the next generation of peace and human rights sensitivity that will bear the future of Korea and Japan, we will promote peace education and human rights education and strive to develop leadership in the next generation.

Korea-Japan Reconciliation and Peace Platform
Civil society and religious community in Korea and Japan have been promoting civilian cooperation, eagerly hoping that the two countries will overcome unfortunate history, achieve reconciliation and peace, and become true partners in cooperation for peace and co-prosperity in Northeast Asia.
However, the relationship between the two countries has been in a state of collapse due to the Korean Supreme Court's ruling in October 2018 to make reparation for forced laborers and the following economic retaliation of the Abe administration against them.
First of all, we launch today the "Korea-Japan Reconciliation and Peace Platform" (hereinafter referred to as the Korea-Japan Platform), deeply reflecting on our failure to fulfill our responsibilities in the face of this stern reality and vowing to devote more to a new start between the two countries. In the future, the Korea-Japan platform will make utmost efforts to strengthen civilian cooperation and solidarity with the aim of building a "Common House" for reconciliation and peace between the two countries and further peace in East Asia. Through our efforts, we believe that the story of the people is told and that people's participation in reconciliation and peace will be expanded to every aspect of our societies.
First, the Korea-Japan platform will share the preciousness of "memory."
Remembering without forgetting the painful past of abuse and damage is a paradoxical but healthy starting point for Korea-Japan relations, and further laying the foundation for the reconstruction of the trust-based community.
Second, we will respect "diversity" and recognize "difference."
We experienced the war of aggression under the pretext of hegemonic "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere" and forced “Imperial Citizen Forming” through “Family Name Change by Imperial Japan” and “Visits to the Shrine.” Also, Korean society has a painful experience in which the military dictatorship wiped out the freedom of thought and the press and forced uniformity.
We are still unable to liquidate these historical evils. Respecting "diversity" and recognizing "difference" is the first step in creating a symbiotic world in which societies without discrimination and disgust, and diverse values and cultures are in full bloom.
Third, we will take the lead in making peace.
For all of us living in this era, "peace" is not an option but a must. in particular Japan's Peace Constitution is a safeguard for peace and co-prosperity in Northeast Asia, not just an asset of Japan. The establishment of a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula is a valuable asset for all the world's people who wish for peace. It is the key to leading the world to a more peaceful place by opening a new era of peace and cooperation in Northeast Asia.
Fourth, we will do our best to make Northeast Asia and the world without nuclear weapons. Beyond Korea and Japan, residents of the entire Northeast Asia live under routine nuclear threats. The threat of a nuclear war caused by nuclear power plants and nuclear armament in Northeast Asia is violating the right to life of the entire global community beyond Northeast Asia. The work of making a nuclear-free world can't be delayed any longer, and therefore we will work for the denuclearization of Northeast Asia and a world without nuclear weapons.
Fifth, we will create a society where dreams and hopes of the next generation are fully flourished.
Korea and Japan are now suffering from increased infection of the corona 19. Especially in Japan, social minorities such as immigrants and Koreans in Japan are excluded from the government's support system. We will pool our capabilities in peace, human rights and multicultural education to overcome narrow nationalism and to live in a society where the universal values of freedom and equality, justice and peace, engagement and harmony, reconciliation and co-prosperity of mankind are realized.
Both Korea and Japan, civil society and the religious community are situated at a crucial juncture of history. In order to turn the current crisis into a new opportunity, we will do our best to gather and broaden the participation of the people.
